GAUTENG - Two families in Reiger Park, Boksburg, are demanding answers after their loved ones were shot dead on Friday night in what they believe was a deliberate, targeted killing.

Jaydin Magerman and her cousin Rolene Lessing were killed at close range near a shop in the area.

Family representative Chris Landsberg described the killing as an execution.

"Whoever shot the girls made sure it was at close range, execution style. No belongings were taken from the scene," he said.

He added that the attackers appeared to have waited until both women were together before approaching them, suggesting they were deliberately singled out.

Birthday night turns to tragedy

The timing made the loss even more devastating. Friday was the evening the family had planned to celebrate Jaydin's birthday, which had fallen two days earlier. Landsberg said it was a regular tradition for the cousins to gather at their grandmother's home over weekends.

"It's still unbelievable. Questions remain about how she leaves home for two minutes and gets killed in such a brutal way," he said.

The attack did not end with the two women. Constable Thapelo Tlomstane and Constable Sphiwe Sieko, both members of the anti-gang unit, were also fatally shot after responding to the incident.
