GAUTENG — Two members of the South African Police Service have been shot and killed in Reiger Park.

The officers, who were members of the Anti-Gang Unit, were killed in the area on Friday, 7 August 2026, after responding to gunfire in the area. Two civilians were also shot dead during the incident.

SAPS Gauteng confirmed the deaths in an official statement posted to X at approximately 19:30, noting that the officers were part of a crime prevention patrol active in the area at the time.

Officers allegedly ambushed after responding to gunshots

According to preliminary findings, the two officers heard gunshots while on patrol and drove toward the source of the firing. Upon arrival, they were allegedly ambushed by unknown gunmen. The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under active investigation, with the scene still secured at the time of the statement.

No arrests have been confirmed yet, and the motive for the murders remains unknown.
