SOUTH AFRICA — The South African Police Service has expressed relief after fraud and corruption charges against seven of its senior officers were withdrawn at the Pretoria Magistrates' Court.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane issued a statement welcoming the development, saying the resolution of the legal matter clears the path for the affected officers to return their full attention to policing duties.
Khumalo to refocus on Crime Intelligence and PKTT
Among those whose charges were dropped is Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, who serves as Divisional Commissioner of Crime Intelligence and Project Manager of the [Political Killings Task Team (PKTT)](https://www.saps.gov.za). Khumalo's portfolio is considered one of the most sensitive within the service, centred on dismantling organised criminal networks, disrupting syndicates, and ensuring intelligence informs targeted police operations.

The SAPS indicated that Khumalo would return his focus to those responsibilities without delay, describing intelligence-driven operations as a core function of the organisation's current strategic direction.

Reset agenda drives SAPS leadership priorities
The withdrawal of charges comes as the SAPS continues to pursue its Reset Agenda, a framework under which Acting National Commissioner Dimpane has identified the strengthening of intelligence capacity and leadership as a top-tier priority.
In her statement, Dimpane said,
"SAPS is resolute in taking down highly organised criminal networks and bringing serious and violent criminals to justice."
The service further indicated its intention to develop into a stronger, intelligence-led organisation capable of delivering measurable results across communities.
