African Renaissance Podcast host Mbuyiseni Ndlozi took to X on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, to weigh in on a major legal development, celebrating the National Prosecuting Authority's decision to drop charges against several senior officials.

The NPA confirmed it will unconditionally withdraw fraud and corruption charges against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo, Brigadier Dineo Mokwele, and five others this Friday, 21 August 2026. The charges related to Mokwele's appointment and followed what has since been described as a politically motivated investigation driven by former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson.

National Director of Public Prosecutions Andy Mothibi ordered the withdrawal in July, following representations made by the accused and a memorandum from IDAC. The case cannot be re-enrolled without Mothibi's written approval, making it a significant outcome for those implicated.

Mzansi weighs in on Mbuyiseni Ndlozi's reaction

The reaction online was anything but unanimous. Some users backed Ndlozi's sentiments, while others questioned whether the justice system works the same for everyone.

@bennethvanwyk said:

"What's more, it's a victory for South Africa...all the might and connections of the crime syndicates could not find anything on Khumalo...he was under extreme vetting...a man of integrity...SA needs integrity for the position..."

@bigwillySZN was more cautious:

"Indeed, but it's not victory until the culprits are charged, tried and sentenced."

@TshepoManyak expressed frustration at the timeline:

"Victory is very late, hey. When we have organised crime to deal with, and everyone is now getting their statements correctly because of this delay. Will we recover from this?"

@Bernedict19 questioned the fairness of the system:

"SA justice system moves differently depending on who you are. Meanwhile, fraud cases take 5 years, and by then we've forgotten. Justice delayed is justice denied for the rest of us. So, Victory of justice or Victory of technicalities? We'll see how this one changes in 2 weeks."

@MajorHarris17 turned attention to another name:

"General Fannie Masemola is the next victim who must be unshackled from this yoke of IDAC dirty tricks."
