LIMPOPO — A Tshwane Metro Police Department constable's defence team has told the Polokwane Magistrate's Court that he generates approximately R80,000 per week through private business activities, using this to explain how he affords a luxury vehicle while on a police salary.
According to SABC News, Advocate Hlawu Maluleke submitted a supplementary affidavit on behalf of Constable Peter "Gagash" Nonyane, in which he outlined the officer's secondary income streams. According to the affidavit, Nonyane is a business partner in a Pretoria nightclub and works as an event master of ceremonies, with earnings from both ventures deposited directly into his account on a weekly basis.
Luxury Mercedes-Benz at the centre of scrutiny
The defence argued that Nonyane's outside earnings are sufficient to cover his monthly vehicle financing obligations for a Mercedes-Benz V300, financed through Toyota Financial Services. The submission sought to establish a credible financial explanation for the high-end asset amid questions raised during the bail hearing.
