SOUTH AFRICA - A desperate search is underway for 16-year-old Monique Viljoen, who disappeared from her family home in Escombe, Brakpan, on Sunday night under deeply alarming circumstances.
According to Missing Person South Africa, her mother, Andrea, last saw her at around 11 pm. When she went to wake Monique for school the next morning, her daughter was gone.
The family is now working alongside law enforcement and private investigators Wendy Pascoe and Matt Venter to locate her and bring her home safely.
Snapchat contact raises alarm
The detail that has investigators most concerned involves social media. According to friends of the teenager, Monique had allegedly been in contact with a significantly older man on Snapchat in the days before she disappeared. Investigators currently believe she may have been lured to KuGompo City in East London, though this lead has not yet been confirmed.

Her cellphone has already been handed over to authorities for forensic analysis. Flyers are being distributed widely through community crime groups across KuGompo, Beacon Bay, and Gonubie as the search expands.
What Monique looks like
Monique is described as 1.6 metres tall with an average build, blue eyes, and ash-blonde hair worn in a high ponytail. When she was last seen, she had on a black crop-top and wide-leg pants in pink or light mauve.
Anyone with information about Monique's whereabouts is urged to contact the police or the investigating team immediately.
George ten still missing
In similar news, 19-year-old George teenager Sarah Rose Starrett was last seen on Sunday, 19 July, in Maitland Street, Blanco. As investigation by the SAPS progressed, a video linked to the missing teenager began circulating on social media platforms.Warrant Officer Chris Spies, spokesperson for the Southern Cape Police, confirmed that authorities are aware of the footage but said investigators are unable to comment on its authenticity, as doing so could compromise the active probe.
