KWAZULU-NATAL — Linda Govender remains hopeful that her daughter, Terricia, will be found safe.
Terricia went missing in Nepal following a devastating natural disaster that struck a remote border region. She was on a religious pilgrimage at the time.
In a selfie-style video shared on 3 September 2026, the visibly distressed mother described the agonising wait, saying she had only one prayer: to bring Terricia home safely. Linda will be travelling to Nepal in the hopes of finding her daughter.

"All I could do right now is pray. I am hoping for a miracle that my daughter is going to come back to me."
Flash floods strike Nepal-Tibet border
Terricia is one of six South Africans still unaccounted for in the country. She had embarked on a pilgrimage and was due to return on 29 August 2026, but never made it home. Terricia was still sharing videos of her journey, days before tragedy struck.
On 26 August, catastrophic flash floods and landslides tore through the Nepal-Tibet border area near the Gyirong crossing.
The disaster was triggered by a high-altitude glacial collapse, which sent walls of water, mud, and debris surging through the region, devastating communities, immigration checkpoints, and pilgrimage routes in its path.
Terricia's mother clings to hope
Briefly News also reported on Linda's first comments after finding out that her daughter was missing in Nepal.
She revealed that the last building Terricia was seen in was captured on video being completely swept away.
33-year-old Terricia was on a spiritual pilgrimage to Mount Kailash before disaster struck in the area.
