WESTERN CAPE — At least 21 people have died after a horrific multi-vehicle collision on the N1 between Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka on the night of 13 September 2026.
The crash, which occurred at approximately 11:30 pm, involved two minibus taxis and a station wagon. According to the latest information, three people sustained serious injuries.

N1 closed in both directions
Authorities have shut the N1 in both directions at the scene while emergency and traffic officials manage the aftermath. Motorists travelling through the area face major disruptions, with no quick alternative route available.
The only detour currently accessible runs via Prince Albert Road Station, along the R407 towards the N12, and then continues to Beaufort West — a total diversion of approximately 200 kilometres.
Drivers are urged to avoid the stretch of road where possible, prepare for significant delays, and comply with instructions from traffic and emergency personnel on the ground. No further details about the cause of the collision had been confirmed at the time of publication.
