SOUTH AFRICA — Suspended Deputy Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya will spend the weekend in solitary confinement after his bail hearing was postponed to Wednesday, 7 October 2025.

General Sibiya, who was arrested on 21 September at The Grand, is currently held in a C-Max facility at Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria. His legal counsel has challenged the conditions of his detention, arguing they lack a justifiable basis.

Sibiya's detention conditions disputed

During the proceedings, the investigating officer countered that the solitary confinement arrangement is motivated by security considerations and that the conditions are appropriate for any individual in detention.

Sibiya's defence, however, maintained that the issue falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Correctional Services and must be addressed at that level rather than through the bail proceedings.

Key witness allegedly offered money to drop case

A separate and significant development also emerged in Sibiya's sexual offence case.

A witness identified only as "Mr M", the father of the 16-year-old complainant and a former bodyguard, was allegedly approached by individuals linked to what sources describe as the "Sibiya group" following recent court proceedings. He was reportedly offered money to withdraw the case.

Mr M reportedly recorded the conversation and immediately forwarded the recording to the investigating officer, Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu.

The development mirrors earlier recorded calls that were played during the bail hearing and that raised serious concerns about witness interference.

The investigating officer previously told the court that General Sibiya threatened him after the case was opened.

General Sibiya moved to Kgosi Mampuru over escape attempt allegations

Briefly News reported that General Sibiya appeared before the Randburg Magistrate's Court on 22 September 2026.

The State revealed that it was aware of reported escape attempts linked to the senior officer, leading to his move to a secure facility.

He was then moved to Kgosi Mampuru II Management Area, a large maximum- and medium-security prison in Pretoria.
