GAUTENG — Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya allegedly warned the father of a 16-year-old girl that he could "wipe out" the family after learning a case had been opened against him.
The alleged threat was disclosed during Sibiya's ongoing bail application at the Randburg Magistrate's Court by investigating officer Sergeant Nokukhanya Ndlovu.

Sergeant Ndlovu told the court that when Sibiya discovered the father, referred to throughout proceedings as "Mr M," had opened a criminal case, Sibiya phoned him directly.

According to the IO, Sibiya told Mr M:
"What are you doing, do you know it can take a minute to wipe you and your family?"
He also allegedly reminded Mr M that he had bought him food and supported him, adding that Mr M would be the easiest person to "deal with." Ndlovu confirmed that Mr M interpreted the call as a direct threat to his safety.
Mr M also received phone calls
The State argued that Sibiya poses a danger to witnesses and others connected to the case, citing several incidents as evidence of his potential to interfere.
On 19 September 2026, a day after the inquiry became a formal criminal investigation, an unknown person contacted Mr M while posing as the investigating officer to establish whether he had opened a case.
A police officer described as being close to Sibiya also allegedly called Mr M and asked: "Are you going to stand for what you have started?"
Additionally, a close ally of Sibiya identified as Bishop Azwihangwi Maumela contacted Mr M by phone following Sibiya's arrest, which the state also placed before the court as a concern.
Sibiya was arrested by members of the Commission's Recommendations Task Team at the infamous The Grand in Sandton on 21 September 2026. The suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner is facing charges of rape, sexual grooming and trafficking in persons.
How did South Africans react?
South Africans took to social media to respond to the latest allegations, where they expressed strong views.
Rakgadi Shadi posed the question:
"The main question is: How many have already been wiped out?"
Jose Alves wrote:
"The fish gets hooked when it opens its mouth."
Matekele Rose Modiba added:
"What's done in the darkness will always be brought to light."
Kogie Moodley suggested:
"This guy must be thrown into jail for life."
Lisa Hlathi Jambase claimed:
"The cartels wanted him to ascend to the National Police Commissioner's office. We were doomed. Thanks to General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and his team for the media briefing of 6 July 2025. We will forever be indebted to your courageous work."
