South Africa’s richest and most popular football clubs do not necessarily pay the highest wages. Mamelodi Sundowns, the wealthiest club on the continent, has no players among the three top earners, while Kaizer Chiefs, the country’s most supported team, are also absent from the list.

In fact, the highest-paid South African footballer plays abroad, highlighting how talent often leaves the local league for bigger paychecks. Here is a look at the country’s top-earning footballers.
