Sekhukhune United boss Eric Tinkler has downplayed talk of his side being league title contenders, insisting it’s too soon despite their unbeaten start to the season.

The South African tactician has done wonders with Babina Noko as they currently sit on top of the Betway Premiership table this season, with last season's champion Mamelodi Sundowns still putting pressure on them.
The talk about Tinkler leading Sekhukhune United to the league came after Bradley Grobler’s stoppage-time strike against Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, September 20, 2025, handed Babina Noko a crucial win, opening up a four-point lead at the top of the Betway Premiership table with 19 points.
Tinkler plays down Sekhukhune title chances
After the match, Tinkler admitted it’s still too soon to talk about the title race but emphasised that his team’s focus is on staying among the league’s frontrunners.

“It’s still very early in the season, and while we want to be among the top teams, it’s too soon to talk about winning the league. From the moment I joined Sekhukhune, the goal has always been to compete at the highest level, and that remains our focus.”
He continued: “The key now is to stay humble and not let our good start make us complacent, whether as players or technical staff. We’ve worked very hard to reach this point, and that effort must carry on.”
Sekhukhune United have to keep their consistent performance this season as Sundowns have begun to regain their form.
