Pitso Mosimane’s return as Bafana Bafana coach comes with 3 major targets identified by SAFA president Danny Jordaan, with the 2030 FIFA World Cup emerging as the association’s biggest objective.
Speaking at SAFA House on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, Jordaan welcomed Mosimane back after his first spell in charge ended around 14 years ago. He said SAFA would support the coach as he begins his second stint.
According to Soccer Laduma, Jordaan said:
“From this day, we will rally behind the coach. We will support the coach. The coach here, Pitso Mosimane, I've known him for many years. I've worked with and I look forward to renew our partnership.”

3 competitions on SAFA’s radar
Jordaan highlighted the Africa Cup of Nations, the proposed African Nations League and the 2030 World Cup as the key competitions ahead.
“There are three major competitions Bafana will face,” he said, before describing the 2030 World Cup as “the major objective for SAFA”. Portugal, Spain and Morocco will host the tournament.
Cosafa Cup to develop Bafana talent
The Cosafa Cup will also provide Mosimane with an opportunity to assess emerging players.
Jordaan described it as “an opportunity for the next level of players to graduate into international competitions”, leaving selection decisions to the coach.
For Mosimane, the return therefore comes with immediate competitions and a longer-term World Cup goal.

Briefly News also reported that Pitso Mosimane explained his decision not to retain Helman Mkhalele in his Bafana Bafana setup, with the new coach drawing on Carlo Ancelotti’s approach when discussing it.
