Mamelodi Sundowns’ remarkable run across Africa and beyond has brought more than silverware, with the Brazilians continuing to turn their international success into significant financial rewards. The Tshwane giants have now accumulated about R130 million in reported prize money in just four months after adding their latest FIFA Intercontinental Cup victory to their CAF Champions League triumph.
The latest boost came after Sundowns defeated Al Ahli 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld on 19 September, with Nuno Santos scoring both goals. The victory secured another international prize and kept Miguel Cardoso’s side in contention for further honours — and potentially more money — in FIFA’s competition.
The figure comes after Sundowns collected a record US$6 million (about R97.5 million) for winning the 2025/26 CAF Champions League in May. CAF confirmed before the final that the winners would receive the increased US$6 million prize.
Sundowns defeated AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate, winning 1-0 in Pretoria before drawing 1-1 in Rabat on 24 May.

Saturday’s victory over Al Ahli brought another US$2 million (about R32.5 million), taking the combined haul to approximately R130 million at the current exchange rate.
Nuno Santos delivers another international payday
The latest prize followed a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabian giants Al Ahli at Loftus Versfeld on 19 September.
Nuno Santos scored twice for Miguel Cardoso’s side, finding the net in the 17th and 80th minutes.
FIFA confirmed that the victory secured Sundowns the African-Asian-Pacific Cup and sent them through to the next stage of the Intercontinental Cup.
The club will now face the winner of the Derby of the Americas, involving Mexican champions Toluca and the eventual 2026 Copa Libertadores winners.
Sundowns still have another prize within reach
The next stage could provide another major opportunity. FIFA says the winner of the Challenger Cup will progress to the Intercontinental Cup final against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
For Sundowns, the sequence has already produced two major international prizes in four months. Their May continental triumph delivered the largest CAF Champions League winner’s payout in the competition’s history, while the September victory has opened another route to further global competition and potential prize money.
