The footage offers a glimpse into the dual path Mabunda has carved out since hanging up his boots, juggling a prominent role within one of South Africa's top football clubs with an ongoing commitment to Christian ministry.

Mabunda's life after football

Mabunda brought his playing career to a close in August 2021 at the age of 33, having spent a successful period at Chloorkop. During his time as a professional, he accumulated several domestic honours and was part of the Sundowns squad that claimed the CAF Champions League title in 2016.

Since retiring, he has remained closely tied to the Sundowns organisation. He was appointed as executive assistant to club chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, who assumed leadership of the club after his father, Patrice Motsepe, was elected president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Mabunda also features regularly on the club's official Pitchside Podcast, contributing football analysis and insight.

Faith and the Bushiri connection

Mabunda's Christian faith was never far from public view during his playing days. He had publicly identified Bushiri as his spiritual mentor and credited the prophet's guidance with helping him through significant moments in both his personal life and football career.

Bushiri and his wife, Mary, departed South Africa for Malawi in late 2020 while facing legal proceedings in the country. Despite that development, Mabunda's connection to ministries within Bushiri's broader church network appears to have endured.
