The mood on Read the Room was anything but light when it premiered on Wednesday, 23 September 2026. Hosts Shamiso Mosaka and Londie London used the platform to openly criticise their Podcast and Chill colleagues MacG and Sol Phenduka over remarks that left Mzansi outraged for days.

The controversy traces back to a Podcast and Chill episode that aired on Monday, 14 September 2026, in which MacG and co-host Sol Phenduka made a series of jokes about Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, a woman who had gone missing on 9 September after leaving her home in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, for a routine run. Mukwevho suggested she could have simply "kept on running," while Phenduka followed up with a pun tied to her race number. Laughter rang out in the studio. Moselakgomo had already been found dead on 12 September and was formally identified by her family on 14 September — the very same day the episode aired.

Shamiso Mosaka speaks out

Seated on the Read the Room set, Mosaka was unequivocal.

"I personally would like to distance myself from any insensitive comments that were made by the main show," she said.

She went further, pointing to the weight of their platform:

"You are in leadership roles, and sometimes people assume that we all co-sign every single thing that's said and done."

She acknowledged that Phenduka had since apologised but was blunt in her assessment:

"Sometimes you also need to stop saying things you always need to apologise for. Maybe sometimes that's the solution."

Londie London questions production

Londie London directed her frustration at the editorial process, asking how the segment could have survived post-production.

"Surely the episode goes through editing. There's a producer on set," she said, questioning why nobody in the room flagged the content as inappropriate.

She stressed that regardless of the timeline around Moselakgomo's disappearance or the misinformation that may have been circulating, the human reality remained the same:

MacG apologises for Tsontso jokes

Meanwhile, Briefly News previously reported that MacG opened Podcast and Chill on Monday, 21 September 2026, with a public apology.

The apology was directed at the family of Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo, a woman who was murdered, with MacG saying he heard her daughter speak at the funeral.
