South Africa will look to recover from a defeat at Ellis Park when they face New Zealand at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, 29 August, with kick-off scheduled for 17:10.

The Springboks have built an impressive home record at the venue since it hosted its first international in 2021, winning five of six Tests played there. Their sole defeat came in July 2021, a 22-17 loss to the British and Irish Lions — though South Africa ultimately won that series 2-1, with the other two matches at the same ground ending in wins of 27-9 and 19-16.

**Springboks' Cape Town Stadium Record**

Wins at the stadium continued to stack up in subsequent years. In July 2022, South Africa beat Wales 30-14, a match in which Eben Etzebeth earned his 100th international cap. In September 2024, the Springboks defeated New Zealand 18-12 at the venue to claim the Freedom Cup and later secured that year's Rugby Championship. Most recently, South Africa beat Australia 30-22 in August 2025 during the Rugby Championship.

A non-Test fixture against the Barbarians — a 54-7 thrashing in June 2025 — also took place at the ground, though it does not count towards the official Test record.

**All Blacks' Superior Record at Newlands**

While the Springboks hold the upper hand at their current Cape Town venue, the All Blacks built a commanding legacy at the city's former Test ground, Newlands Stadium. Across 10 matches played there from 1928 onwards, New Zealand won seven, giving them the stronger historical record in Cape Town as a whole.

The two sides first met at Newlands in September 1928, with New Zealand winning 13-5. Subsequent visits produced mixed results for South Africa, though the All Blacks claimed victories in 1960, 1970, 1996, 2001, 2008, and 2017. South Africa's wins at the ground came in 1949, 1976, and 2005.

Saturday's fixture will be only the second Test between the two nations at Cape Town Stadium, following the Springboks' 18-12 victory in 2024.
