Michail Kasfikis, a former Wynberg Boys High School pupil and University of Western Cape rugby player, has died in his sleep, with no cause of death disclosed.

Kasfikis matriculated from Wynberg Boys High in 2023 and went on to study towards a Bachelor of Arts in sports science at the University of Western Cape, where he also represented the institution's varsity rugby squad.
Wynberg Boys pay tribute to Kasfikis
Both Wynberg Boys High School and the Wynberg Old Boys Union marked his passing in a Facebook tribute posted on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.

"It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Michail Kasfikis, who passed peacefully in his sleep," the tribute read.
"Michail was a young man of quiet determination, integrity and sincerity. He approached life with purpose and a willingness to learn, always open to guidance and committed to doing things properly. His strong work ethic, gentle nature and kindness made him a valued member of the Wynberg community. He will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him."

A school with deep rugby roots
Wynberg Boys High has a long history of producing prominent rugby talent, with the Cape Town school counting 16 Springboks among its alumni. Zachary Porthen, who graduated in 2022, is among the most recent products of the school's rugby programme, while Stormers star Yaqeen Ahmed matriculated from Wynberg in 2025.
Kasfikis had earned his schoolboy rugby colours at the institution before continuing his sporting career at university level, a trajectory that reflected the school's strong tradition of player development.
