A beloved school principal moved South Africans to tears after her farewell video went viral on TikTok. Mrs Williams of Berea Primary School was given a send-off to remember on 1 September 2026, with footage capturing the warmth and love her school community had for her.
The clip, posted by @bereaprimaryschool showed Mrs Williams walking along the school corridors as rows of uniformed children stretched out their hands for high-fives. The energy was joyful and emotional, with pupils eager to share one last moment with the woman who had shaped their early years.
The video also included a brief indoor ceremony where staff and pupils gathered in the school hall for what appeared to be a formal oath-taking, a fitting tribute to mark the end of her chapter at the school.
A legacy that lasts beyond the classroom
What made the moment stand out was how personally the children of Berea Primary School felt it. A pupil stood up and delivered a speech to the assembly. She addressed the teachers, her fellow peers, and Mrs Williams directly, describing the day as one of "mixed emotions."

"We gather with heavy yet deeply grateful hearts to bid farewell to our principal, Mrs B.E. Williams, as she hangs up her keys and steps into a well-deserved retirement after 43 years in education," she said.
The pupil recalled her very first visit to the principal's office as a shy little girl starting primary school. Rather than fear, she remembered curiosity and comfort, fidgeting with a small desk game while Mrs Williams spoke gently to her mother. She credited the principal with helping her learn to love school.
"I know for a fact that every child that has ever crossed Mrs Williams' path has found a champion, a listener and a fountain of knowledge," the pupil said.
She closed her speech by urging Mrs Williams to step into retirement with pride.
"You have run your race with extraordinary grace."
