Rassie Erasmus has called on the Springboks to deliver a complete performance in Baltimore on Saturday, stressing that the side has not yet reached its ceiling despite leading the Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks 2-1.

Speaking ahead of the fourth and final Test, Rassie Erasmus highlighted the Springboks’ struggles in the closing stages of their recent matches, warning that they must address the issue if they are to secure a 3-1 series victory.

Erasmus wants greater consistency in attack and defence

Erasmus noted that the Springboks had held 14-point leads with only five or six minutes remaining in each of their last two Tests, only for the All Blacks to fight back and reduce the margin to seven points or less.

He said this showed that South Africa had failed to manage the final 10 minutes effectively, with the problem particularly evident in the opening Test when the team had two players in the sin bin.

The Springboks director of rugby identified consistency as the key area that needs improvement. He explained that South Africa must become more consistent in both attack and defence, while acknowledging that New Zealand’s attacking ability makes it difficult to maintain defensive control throughout a match.

Erasmus also stressed that the problem had been evident across all three Tests. He admitted that the Springboks had not been as effective in the final 10 minutes as they have been previously, allowing their performances to dip late in matches. He added that improving their execution and composure during those crucial closing stages would be a major focus heading into the final Test.

The Boks will be looking to close out the series against an All Blacks side that has shown its capacity to fight back late in each of the previous three Tests.
