Media personality and content creator Kim Jayde Robinson had a night she won't forget in a hurry. After being nominated for the Trendsetter Award and the Telkom Best Online Series Award at the Content Creator Awards in South Africa on 18 October 2026, she walked away empty-handed on both occasions and broke down in tears immediately afterwards.
In an emotional selfie-style video filmed from her bed, social media star Kim Jayde gave her followers an unfiltered account of what the evening felt like. She described sitting in her best friend's car, crying from what she called embarrassment and near shame, with the faces of everyone who had ever doubted her flashing through her mind.
Kim Jayde's undelivered speech
Her best friend, who was her plus one for the night, asked her to read the speech she had prepared. That speech told the full story of what she had built. Kicking It With Kim Jayde launched six years ago on a R10,000 budget, filmed in three days inside her sneaker closet with friends including Zayd Osman, Durban Gogor, Blackie, Lucas Raps, and the late Costa Titch.

The latest season, however, was a completely different undertaking. Produced across New York, Los Angeles, Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town over six months, the final production budget exceeded R900,000. Kim Jayde wrote, directed, hosted, cast, scripted, and financed the entire series herself, without any brand deals, sponsors, or investors.
The series went on to become an official selection at the Diversity in Cannes Film Festival, backed by actress Viola Davis and her company Juvie Productions. It also secured a licensing deal to air on Bravo Africa on DStv in 52 countries across the continent, in multiple languages.
"It is possible. Hard as hell, but possible," she said in the speech.

After reading the speech aloud in the car, her best friend told her it was beautiful and that she still needed to say it publicly. So she did, from her bedroom, hours before catching a flight to London.
"It's actually not about an award and it's not about a title. It's about the fact that I literally get to wake up every single day and live my dream," she said.
She closed by congratulating all nominees and winners and thanking her audience for supporting her journey.
The reactions from viewers poured in quickly. Shari Mattera wrote: "FB randomly sent this... never heard of you nor kicking it. Your authenticity brought you to my feed, now I'll look for you."
Stephanie Stefy Pillay II said: "Love the fact that you knew you deserved those awards. It speaks of how high you think of yourself and how hard you work each..."
Irfaan Allie Jaffer commented: "Still a winner 🥇 gracious and still smiling and ready for the next chapter 👏🏻 👍🏻 strength and bravery is flowing through yo..."
Roné Bredenkamp shared: "Girl, you've got me in tears. This video got me sobbing!!! This is what I'm currently facing."
Heinrich Langenhoven added: "Chin up, Kim, you will get it next time, as Drake said in the Aston Martin music song. I haven't thrown away my Grammy speech."
