Swys de Bruin has taken up a new position in club coaching, with Paarl Boys' High confirming his appointment as the school's head of coaching on Monday, 5 October 2026.

De Bruin steps into a role previously held by his son Neil, who departed at the end of 2025 to join Johan Ackermann's coaching staff at the Bulls. Alongside the elder De Bruin's appointment, former Super Rugby lock George Earle has been named 1st XV head coach, replacing Sean Erasmus, who has moved on to Maties.

Earle, who represented both the Lions and Cheetahs during his Super Rugby career and has been part of the Paarl Boys' 1st XV coaching setup since 2025, takes charge of the school's premier team as Erasmus begins his new chapter at Maties.

For De Bruin, the appointment represents his first confirmed coaching role since parting ways with SA Rugby. He had overseen the Springbok Women's high-performance programme from August 2024, a tenure that included the team reaching their first-ever Rugby World Cup quarter-final in 2025.

De Bruin dismisses bonus dispute claims

De Bruin addressed speculation that surrounded his exit from the national set-up, pushing back on reports that a disagreement with SA Rugby over bonuses had prompted his departure. He stated that the decision had been taken well in advance and was not driven by any financial dispute.

His move to Paarl Boys' High reunites him with school-level rugby after a career that has spanned franchise and national coaching, including a stint as head coach of the Lions.
