Munster Rugby have issued a statement following the controversial United Rugby Championship (URC) disciplinary hearing involving Leinster prop Tadhg Furlong and Munster number eight Gavin Coombes. The club has reaffirmed its support for Coombes after an independent committee dismissed the citing complaint against Furlong on Thursday, 29 October 2026.

The case stemmed from an incident during Leinster's 24-18 victory over Munster at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, 24 October. Furlong had been cited under Law 9.27 following an allegation that he grabbed Coombes in the private area.

"Gavin Coombes continues to have the full backing of the club."

Avan Lee addresses controversial URC proceedings

Munster interim CEO Avan Lee explained that supporting Coombes had remained the club's priority throughout the process.

"The priority this week was to back Gavin and for the club to stand behind him, and that position has not changed," Lee said.

He also stressed the importance of letting independent disciplinary proceedings conclude without outside commentary shaping public perception.

"Respect for that process, and consideration for everyone directly involved, should be paramount," he added.

Tadhg Furlong available for Ireland

The decision means Furlong remains eligible for selection by Leinster and Ireland. He is available for Ireland's upcoming Nations Championship campaign, which begins against Argentina in November.
