Cable car riders in Colombia found themselves in one of the most terrifying situations imaginable on 10 August 2026, when a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the country and left them dangling in the air mid-ride.
TikTok news account @mustsharenews shared footage on 11 August 2026 showing the chaotic scene inside a cabin as the earthquake hit. Passengers could be seen gripping the walls of the cable car, visibly shaken, with the mountainous Colombian landscape stretching out behind the windows as the car swayed.
Colombia’s 7.4-magnitude earthquake
The earthquake was one of the most powerful to strike Colombia in recent years. According to the United States Geological Survey, a tremor of that magnitude is classified as a major earthquake capable of causing serious damage over wide areas. Colombia sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it seismically active and vulnerable to significant quakes.

Being suspended in a cable car during a ground-shaking event of that scale meant passengers had no way to evacuate, no solid ground beneath them, and no control over how violently the cabin moved. According to reports, all passengers were rescued safely.
