Zimbabwe's Prophet Walter Magaya has broken his silence on one of the most pressing questions circulating since the death of flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo, addressing why none of the country's many prominent prophets foresaw what was coming. Footage of his remarks, filmed outside Chivayo's Gletwin mansion on Friday, 2 October 2026, was captured by ZTN Prime and Star FM and has since ignited fierce debate online.
Chivayo and his wife Lucy were killed when their helicopter went down near Marondera on Wednesday evening, 30 September 2026. The crash sent shockwaves across Zimbabwe and beyond, given Chivayo's high public profile and his well-publicised relationships with politicians, prophets, and public figures across the continent.
Magaya on Wicknell Chivayo death prophecy
Speaking to off-camera journalists at an outdoor nighttime interview beside a younger, formally dressed companion, Magaya fielded the question many Zimbabweans had been asking out loud.

"A lot of people are asking questions: we have so many prophets here in Zimbabwe, but nobody saw this coming," one journalist said to him.
Magaya's response leaned heavily on scripture. He cited the book of Corinthians to argue that prophetic revelation is not exclusive to ordained prophets but available to every Christian, and that ultimately, "the Lord reveals what he wants and hides what he wants."
He concluded that even ordinary believers could not have foreseen it, not just the prophets, because God chose to conceal it for reasons only He knows.
Before addressing the prophecy question, Magaya spoke at length about Wicknell Chivayo's generosity, claiming the late businessman had plans on his phone to build hospitals, schools, and stadiums for Zimbabwe.
"I will shock you with the news on my phone where he was planning to do the hospitals that other people are crying for," Magaya told reporters, describing himself as part of those plans.
Peeps react to Magaya's explanation
The video drew pointed reactions from viewers who were not buying the explanation:
@wyd_kw wrote:
"I often wonder about people who follow tripe prophets like this guy. Are they really gullible and believe it, or do these guys think others are that gullible and will believe it? I didn't need to open the video to know he was saying something offside."
@SamasukuEbrahim raised a contradiction many were thinking about:
"My only challenge is people are being told to pay $10, $50, etc., in exchange for help and protection. If one can pay millions and there is no protection."
@prazimar was cynical about the delivery itself:
"Magaya was waiting for this moment; he prepared for exactly this moment. This is scripted, rehearsed countless times in the mirror. 😂"
@mitimitaics pointed to conflicting narratives:
"The other prophet said he knew his time was up. The other saying he was planning for the future."

"How many years did he have to at least build a small clinic with 2 rooms before we talk of a hospital?"
