Poet and activist Ntsiki Mazwai has stirred up a conversation across social media after sharing a video tour of the late Wicknell Chivayo's lavish dressing room, packed with hundreds of pairs of designer sneakers, just one day after his death. The timing of the post has prompted a wave of strong opinions about wealth, corruption, and legacy.

Chivayo, the controversial Zimbabwean businessman, died on 30 September 2026 when a helicopter he was travelling in crashed in Marondera, Zimbabwe. His death immediately reignited scrutiny over his flamboyant lifestyle and how he amassed his fortune, given his close ties to Zanu-PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Ntsiki's Sharp Words on Wealth and Greed

Mazwai, known for her outspoken commentary on South African and African politics, shared the first-person walkthrough-style clip on X, which moves through a sprawling dressing room filled with folded clothing, shelves of designer footwear, and finally a carpeted bedroom floor blanketed with rows upon rows of sneakers. The footage carries the unmistakable tone of a "wealth reveal" video.

Her posts accompanying the share pulled no punches. "Greed is one of the seven deadly sins, no?" she wrote in one message. In another, she reflected: "May money never make me lose my values. May I never be a slave to money. May my principles always overrule money." She also added: "I have realised that we live amongst a people who will do anything for money…"
