JR Makes History: Mzansi Musician to Launch New Music Distribution App

- JR has announced that he will launch his new music distribution app aimed at helping independent artists at the end of this month

- The musician said the app will allow up-and-coming musicians to drop their new songs via their smartphones only

JR is preparing to launch Africa's first cellphone music distribution app. The musician and his partner and co-counder Sizwe Hlongwane are expected to officially launch the new app called FYVE at the end of May.

The Show Dem (Make the Circle Bigger) hitmaker took to Instagram a few days ago to let Mzansi know that their app will allow especially up-and-coming musicians with no major label backup to drop their new songs using only their smartphones.

He said their new innovation aims to break barriers for independent artists with who are struggling to release their hit songs.

"It gives me great pleasure to announce the beginning of a new tech era! @fyveworld a new DIY Music Distribution app that will allow musicians to release music from their CELLPHONES! Launching end of May, breaking barriers for many independent artists who are struggling to release their HIT SONGS! We are just getting started!"

ZAlebs said JR told SABC's Morning Live during a recent interview how the app will work.

"Creators will be able to upload, their music, their artwork and all the songs they have made via their cellphones, they no longer have to be making calls to different labels, etc."
