Duduzane Zuma caused a stir when he arrived at the Tafel Lager Park stadium in Kimberly.

Briefly.co.za reported that the ANC is holding its 108th-anniversary celebrations in Kimberley, which are rumored to have cost around R50 million.

But Jacob Zuma's son had made his presence known, walking around the stadium to allow his fans to take photos with him.

Six hulking bodyguards dressed in black suits lurked close by as Duduzane moved from corner to corner enjoying his moment in the spotlight.

The former president had opted out of joining in the festivities, with the Jacob Zuma Foundation confirming suspicions that he had been treated for a mystery illness overseas:

"The former president is in good spirits and appreciates the support he has received in the last few weeks. Yes, he has been treated abroad. This year will be busy for him as he will be focusing on projects that are close to his heart."

While Zuma's son managed to get the crowds going with his appearance, TimesLIVE reports that President Cyril Ramaphosa's arrival had seen the stadium erupting into song and applause.

Ramaphosa had bowed out of two events on Friday, with speculation that he was attempting to avoid probing questions on Eskom's issues.

However, spokesperson Khusela Diko had insisted the nation's leader had simply needed the chance to rest after a week of canvassing the Northern Cape.

Duduzane's appearance has been hyped up on social media, take a look at just a few of the reactions to the event below:
