Weekly wrap: Idols disappoints, lady thrilled with gift and Skeem Saam ends

This week has been full of entertainment news, South Africans are not impressed with the latest episode of Idols. A woman was thrilled with a gift from her bae and Skeem Saam has been put on hold.

1. Idols SA Announces New Season, Mzansi Unimpressed: "Take a Break"

Idols SA took to social media on Monday, 25 January to announce that they will open auditions for Season 17 online in 5 days. The singing competition shared that they'll open their website soon for the biggest online audition aimed at keeping contestants safe amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

2. Lady Shows Great Excitement at Receiving Car Gift From Her Man

A young lady with the Twitter handle @_nomangesi has taken to the platform to celebrate her partner for what he did for her.

A WhatsApp chat screenshot she shared showed how the man invited her home from work under the pretence of an emergency.

In the chat, the man asked the woman to rush home quickly for just 10 minutes. He also asked her to let him know when she is leaving the office.

3.Production Break: 'Skeem Saam' Put on Halt Due to Declining Viewership

SABC soapie Skeem Saam is to go on a production break. The show has lost a million viewers and there are rumours in the entertainment industry that it might be axed soon. There has been a significant dip in viewership for the soapie.

Entertainment blogger Phil Mphela broke the news that Skeem Saam would be going on a production break from 1 March 2021. The SABC has told Mphela that the break will not affect the show's usual airing time.

"The SABC has duly fulfilled its contractual obligations in relation to the production of Skeem Saam. We can also confirm that there is no disruption in transmission," said an SABC spokesperson, Mmoni Seapolelo.

4. Curtain Call: Cindy Mahlangu Talks About Leaving 'Scandal' with a Bang

Mzansi actress Cindy Mahlangu has closed off her final performance in the soapie Scandal and she has spoken about leaving the show on a good note. Last night's episode left viewers with a cliffhanger.

Cindy plays the character of Violetta on the show. Her character is one that viewers love to hate and they would like to see an end to her evil ways.

5. Moshidi Motshegwa Bashes The River's Larona Moagi's Acting Skills

It has been a while since Moshidi Motshegwa left The River. The Mzansi actress has now spoken out about her experience. She also spoke about Larona Moagi, who plays Tumi in the series.

Over the last few years, people have been using the internet to break into the entertainment industry, because after all, it is quite cutthroat. In Mzansi, some people have been using social media to try and gain the attention of top producers.

Moshidi opened up to Drum magazine about her relationship with her on-screen daughter Larona Moagi.

''It was very difficult to work with Larona. We can't cast people from Instagram, give them a huge role and not give them support," she said.
