Courage Under Fire: Dramatic Video Surfaces of Attempted CIT Heist

A dramatic video of an attempted cash in transit heist has surfaced online. The video almost seems like it is part of an action movie.

The driver and his partner were attacked by an unknown number of people and fired upon. The bullet impacts are visible on the bulletproof glass.

After the CIT van was fired upon, the driver performed a U-turn and they were rammed and fired at again with the passenger window being hit but bullets.

The driver remained calm and collected as he outmanoeuvred and escaped from the attackers who had opened fire on the cash-in-transit van a number of times.

The driver's partner appears to be in shock at the situation. The CIT van appears to get stuck and the driver bravely exits the vehicle with his rifle.

The incident took place on 22 April on the N4 and that the attackers did not get any of the money from the van.

According to a statement from police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo the driver exited the vehicle to wait for the robbers but they fled the scene.

Earlier, Briefly News reported that a harrowing clip of a truck driver coming face-to-face with two armed hijackers has been shared on Facebook page SA Long-Distance Truckers. In the clip, which was captured by a dashcam, the two men can be seen approaching the driver with their guns drawn.

The quick-thinking driver springs into action and starts reversing the truck, which causes the two hijackers to start running after him. Unfortunately for them, the driver makes a quick U-turn and gets himself to safety.

"Cape Town. Delivery vehicle carrying cigarettes almost hijacked. Well done driver for getting away. Watch the dashcam footage here," the Facebook page captioned the post.

In other news, a video of an armed robbery at a Limpopo store has been uploaded to social media. @Abramjee (Yusuf Abramjee) uploaded the one-and-a-half-minute video to Twitter this morning and it has since racked up almost 20 000 views.

The video shows three armed assailants (one clad in blue and the other two in black) entering the store. Customers move away from the cashier as the assailant in blue approaches the counter with his gun while one assailant stands guard and the other assailant walks behind the counter.

The incident occurred in Thohoyandou and it is currently unclear if there were any injuries or how much money was taken from the premises. South African tweeps took to the replies section to share their concerns.
