Trump's Hope of Social Media Return Suffers Setback as Ban is Upheld

- Facebook's Oversight Board has delivered its verdict on Donald Trump's ban from its social media platforms

- The board in its judgment on Wednesday, May 5, affirmed the decision to block the former president from using its platform

- However, it ordered Facebook to review the initial decision to permanently ban Trump within six months

It looks like Donald Trump’s hope of returning to Facebook and Instagram has been dashed after the social media's oversight board upheld the decision to ban the former US president.

Recall that Trump was suspended from also using Twitter on a permanent basis. The reason given by the company is that it was an effort to stop him from inciting people to do illegal things again.

Twitter said the decision made "after close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account".

According to CNN, the board on Wednesday, May 5, said Facebook can keep blocking Trump from using its platform.

However, the board criticised the social media network for its initial decision to make the suspension indefinite saying the verdict must be revisited within six months.

In another report by BBC, Facebook's oversight board stated that disciplinary actions consistent with Facebook's policies that are applied to other regular users must be imposed.

It noted that such sanctions should include a time-bound period of suspension or permanent disabling of the account.

The board concluded that Trump's posts praising the US Capitol rioters violated the platform's policies and also created an environment where the serious risk of violence was possible."

Meanwhile, Briefly News reported that Trump technically became a blogger following his new retro webpage, “From the Desk of Donald J Trump”.

The page features a small photo of the 45th president writing in a book on his desk. A video shared included archive material announcing Trump’s ban from Twitter and images of his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and of a desktop, overlaid by captions.

In a related development, the former U.S. president launched a scathing attack on Fox Business on Thursday, April 29, in the wake of the raid carried out by the FBI on Rudy Giuliani's home.

The two locations were raided and federal agents confiscated computers and cell phones, adding that this is a marked escalation in the investigation into Giuliani.

His business dealings are being scrutinised, particularly his work in Ukraine. Tump described Giuliani as a "great patriot."
