A KwaZulu-Natal primary school broke the news of a heartbreaking loss on 14 August 2026. Andrew Zondo Primary School announced the death of one of its Grade 6 learners, Emihle Gumede, in a post shared on the school's Facebook page.

The school described the moment as one of deep sadness and said its thoughts and prayers were with Emihle's parents and family during what it called a sorrowful time. No cause of death was shared. A memorial card posted alongside the announcement carried the words "Forever in our hearts," a simple phrase that seemed to capture the weight of what the school community was feeling.
Emihle's funeral was scheduled for Sunday, 16 August 2026, at 09h00 at the Gumede family residence in Emsahweni.
