This comes months after an unknown woman claimed the King of Kwaito had been benefiting financially from a Lotteries Commission grant. The woman alleges that Mafokate had helped her and her disabled child apply for the grant as well.
According to Sunday World, a source was not pleased about the news, noting Mafokate's previous run-ins with the law:
"We must not forget that Mafokate was previously implicated in the misappropriation of funds, and his assets were even attached by the Special Investigating Unit.
"Yet here we are, seeing his company once again positioned to receive millions. How does this happen when so many deserving and emerging artists are struggling for support?"
Meanwhile, the 999 Records founder said the funding was earned legitimately:
"We applied through the official department MGE process, met all the stipulated requirements, and were approved on merit."
Here's what Mzansi said about Arthur Mafokate's funding
South Africans are appalled, wondering how this could happen, considering Mafokate's previous offences.
In recent years, the Mnike hitmaker has been embroiled in several scandals involving corruption and fraud, including the lotteries saga that had his assets frozen by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Speaking on previous scandals, the Kwaito legend said everything had been ironed out, highlighting that his company contributes significantly to the creative sector:
“All the legal matters relating to previous funding have been resolved, and there are no current findings of wrongdoing against me or my company.”
“We maintain full transparency in our financial dealings. Every project we undertake contributes to job creation and opportunities within the creative sector. Our record speaks for itself.”
