Veteran radio presenter Kgomotso "KG" Moeketsi is gearing up for a High Court showdown with SAfm, claiming the public broadcaster dismissed her unfairly and violated the terms of her contract. In a detailed public statement released on 5 August 2026, she laid out a troubling chain of events that she says led to her removal.
Moeketsi's two-year contract with SAfm had only just begun on 1 April when things started to unravel. She was dismissed on 15 July following an internal investigation led by SAfm programme manager Ferdinand Mabalane.
KG Moeketsi takes matter to court
Moeketsi disputes the breach of contract finding, insisting the process that led to her dismissal did not follow the agreed terms. She is now crowdfunding legal fees to pursue her case in the High Court.

"I am now raising funds to pursue legal action in the High Court, and this is a fight I do not undertake lightly. Litigation is expensive, time-consuming and emotionally draining. However, I believe the issues involved extend beyond my personal circumstances."
She was clear about what she wants from the legal action - not her position back, but transparency and fairness.
"I am not speaking out because I want my job back; I do not! What I want is accountability and an independent assessment of whether the terms of my contract were honoured and whether the actions taken against me were fair."
The veteran presenter, who marked three decades in the South African broadcasting industry in June, also revealed that other freelancers had approached her with accounts of similar treatment, suggesting her case may shine a light on wider concerns about how the broadcaster handles independent contractors.

The WhatsApp message that started it all
According to Moeketsi, the friction began with a light-hearted exchange. On 30 May, a listener reached out on WhatsApp requesting a song, and she jokingly replied: "Why don't you play it for yourself though?" The listener allegedly took offence at the remark.
The very next day, a major technical breakdown disrupted her broadcast for close to two hours. Fed up, she fired off a strongly worded email on 1 June raising concerns about the station's recurring technical issues. Shortly after, she was suspended, though she claims she was completely in the dark about it until she turned up to present a show on 6 June. Payment for that appearance was later withheld.
As KG Moeketsi prepares to take her battle to the High Court, her case could ultimately set a significant precedent for how public broadcasters treat independent contractors across South Africa’s media industry.
