Chidimma Adetshina broke her silence outside a Cape Town courtroom on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, delivering a composed public statement after her deportation case was postponed.

Standing before a bank of branded microphones, she addressed the media in a measured, formal tone, saying her words came without anger.

What Chidimma said

The judgement in her citizenship and deportation case has been postponed to 27 February 2027, meaning Chidimma remains a free woman while the review process continues.

"I believe that I have been treated unfairly and targeted, and there has been an attempt to make me an example," she told reporters. "South Africa is governed by the rule of law, and we should not allow xenophobia and misinformation to determine how people are going to be treated. We should all be guided by the spirit of Ubuntu."

During her statement, she confirmed that she had pursued every available legal avenue and intended to keep doing so. "Throughout this ordeal, I have availed myself of all appropriate legal recourse, and I'll continue to respect and abide by each process," she said.

She closed by thanking her family, friends, supporters and legal team for what she described as their "unwavering support and commitment" to her case.
