Nyala O star Amanda Seome is not shy about speaking her mind when it comes to love, and in a recent interview, she got refreshingly real about the highs and lows of dating.

The actress, who plays the charming Pretty Hadebe opposite Mapaseka Koetle in the Mzansi Magic hit series, opened up about navigating romance, the warning signs she no longer ignores, and the lines she simply will not allow any partner to cross.

Amanda Seome on reading red flags

Seome made it clear that experience has taught her to pay attention early. She spoke to Sowetan about the kinds of behaviours that set off alarm bells for her when getting to know someone new, emphasising that she has learned not to make excuses for conduct that makes her uncomfortable. For the actress, trusting your instincts at the start of a relationship is far more valuable than hoping things will eventually change. She shared a lesson she learned from Pretty about relationships.

"Don't put your life on hold because you're waiting for someone to change. If someone shows you who they are, believe them. Don't make excuses and don't tolerate nonsense. Always choose yourself; don't think it's selfish. There's nothing selfish in choosing yourself because the person who matters the most is you."

She also touched on the emotional side of dating, acknowledging that relationship drama is something most people know all too well. Rather than brushing it off, the former Shaka iLembe star leaned into the conversation with honesty, noting that heartbreak and confusion are part of the journey but should never become a permanent situation.

Amanda Seome touches on her non-negotiables

When it came to deal-breakers, Seome did not hold back. She listed behaviours and attitudes she refuses to tolerate in a relationship, making it plain that her peace of mind is not up for negotiation. Respect, consistency, and emotional maturity featured prominently in what she looks for in a partner.

As someone who plays "the other woman" in Nyala O, Seome highlighted that lies are major non-negotiables for her.

"I would never tolerate a lie. Cheating is a no-no for me. Loyalty is important to me; be loyal! If I can do it, so can you. Communication is also important. You have to communicate with each other; if not, the essence of the relationship is lost."

The actress also reflected on how her understanding of love has evolved, suggesting that the version of herself who might have overlooked certain things no longer exists. She described a more grounded, self-assured approach to relationships, one shaped by lessons rather than regrets.
