Veteran broadcaster Anele Mgudlwa, formerly known as Anele Mdoda, has sent Mzansi into a spin after revealing how much she forked out for her very first car. The numbers did not quite add up for many of her followers, and the conversation quickly turned into a full-blown debate.

It all started on 21 August 2026, when an X user threw a question out to the timeline asking how much people paid for their first cars. Anele jumped into the thread and disclosed that her monthly repayments on an Audi A3 2l Turbo came to R3 900, against a monthly salary of just R5 400.

Rather than expressing regret, the radio and television personality was unapologetic and even a little boastful about it.

"Audi A3 2lTurbo, R3900 a month. You could not tell me anything. That time my salary was R5400 a month."

When one follower asked whether she was still living at home during that period, Anele confirmed she was, which perhaps explains how she managed to keep up with the payments.

Another user in the thread mentioned that their boss had snapped up an Audi on a first intern salary of around R9 000 a month, joking that the brand's marketing must have been exceptionally persuasive. Anele was quick to weigh in, defending the splurge with a laugh.

"Babe, let me tell you, pushing 4 rings was non-negotiable! Vorsprung durch Technik!" she replied, referencing the iconic Audi slogan.

While some followers applauded her for chasing her dream car despite the financial stretch, others were far less generous and openly questioned the credibility of her story.

Mzansi doubts Anele Mgudlwa's story

Leratomnisi_ raised a legal angle:

"This is totally not true; no institution can approve a R5.4k salary for any loan that will take R3.9k a month. That is illegal/ reckless lending. Anele is definitely not disclosing all her financial capabilities at that time."

Chaamp0921 was blunt:

"You think we're all from the Eastern Cape. How's that possible?"

TblaM13103 kept it short:

"You're lying; the bank wouldn't have approved."

Despite the sceptics, a number of fans sided with Anele, applauding her for stretching her budget to buy something she truly wanted, even if it meant living at home and watching every cent for the duration of those repayments.
