Eminem is among the first celebrities to pay tribute to Dolly Parton following her death on Tuesday, 25 August 2026. The US rapper did not just share a simple goodbye — he revealed a deeply personal letter the country legend had written to him, showing a side of Dolly that left the internet in tears.
Dolly Parton passed away peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 80.
Dolly's letter to Marshall
The handwritten note was addressed to Eminem following his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In it, Parton congratulated him on the milestone, calling his performance "amazing" and acknowledging him as the very best in rap music, even by her own admission of knowing little about the genre.

What made the letter extraordinary, though, was its raw sincerity. "I have always felt some unexplained connection to you like I know you somehow," she wrote, before adding that she had hoped to meet him at the ceremony but missed her chance. She closed with a message that cut right to the bone: "Just know you are very special and touch people in ways you don't even know."
Eminem responded with equal tenderness on X, writing that receiving the note had a real impact on him. "She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it," he said. "Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy, Dolly. And thank you for the kind words."
