Bonang Matheba is not backing down from her Nicki Minaj fandom. The South African media personality clapped back at critics who tried to publicly shame her for supporting the American rapper, and Mzansi has taken notice.
The drama kicked off on X on 21 September 2026 after a user pointed out that Bonang tweets like Nicki Minaj. Rather than brushing it off, Bonang leaned into it fully.
"....well, I AM a Barb!!" she replied, laughing off the jab with a string of crying-with-laughter emojis.
Bonang defends her right to stan Nicki Minaj
When the criticism escalated further, with some suggesting she should be embarrassed by her support for the rapper, Bonang shut it down swiftly. She reminded her followers that celebrity preference is a personal matter, writing,

She then steered the conversation in a sharper direction, calling out those dragging American political discourse into the mix.
"What's MAGA? 10 women were killed in RSA in the last 6 days. We have bigger problems," she wrote, referencing South Africa's ongoing femicide crisis.
Mzansi reacts to Bonang's Barb confession
The posts drew a wave of reactions from followers who were mostly in her corner.
@Nala8154129 gushed over Bonang:
