Nadia Nakai opened up about her money moves. The rapper and reality TV personality sat down on Nine80 Network's My Biggest Bag to walk through the financial journey that took her from balancing a day job and a music career to becoming a homeowner.
Before the fame and Netflix credits, Nadia landed her first significant brand deal with alcohol brand Brutal Fruit. At the time, she was still clocking in at a corporate job while chasing her music dreams on the side. She recalled that the campaign also introduced her to a circle of women who would go on to become prominent names in the industry, including Lamiez Holworthy, K Naomi, and luxury influencer Sarah Langa.
"My first biggest bag was Brutal Fruit. That was the first biggest brand that I had worked with, and I was still working a 9-to-5 and doing music," she said, adding that it was "my biggest first bag."

Nadia Nakai's Netflix moment
As significant as that early win was, it was her starring role on the first season of Netflix's reality series Young, Famous & African that delivered the career-defining payday. Nadia, whose full name is Nadia Nakai Kandava, described the earnings from the show as particularly rewarding.
"I think my biggest bag had to be Netflix, the reality show, especially season one... The coins were very nice there," she said.
What sets her story apart is what she did next. Rather than splurging on flashy purchases, she channelled the earnings into something lasting. She credited her mother's influence for her disciplined approach to finances, noting that growing up with a financial analyst for a parent gave her a head start on understanding money.
"My mom is a financial analyst, so I've always had that financial savviness of being able to save money and knowing what I need to do. So that money, I put towards a deposit and was able to purchase my house."
It's a refreshingly grounded take from an artist who has spent years building her brand in an industry that often equates success with visible spending. For Nadia, the biggest bag wasn't about the lifestyle flex - it was about securing the foundation beneath her feet.
