Laurinda Mabunda has been doing the podcast rounds since her Married at First Sight Mzansi journey wrapped up, and her latest appearance gave fans a deeper look into just how rough things got with her on-screen husband, Obren Motswane.

Appearing on Engineer Your Life, Laurinda did not hold back when reflecting on her short-lived union with Motswane. She compared it to every relationship she had been in before, and the verdict was not flattering for the experiment.

"I literally had it easier prior to the experiment with the other relationships I've been in. By far, what I had to face in the experiment was my worst," she said.

Leaning into the popular social media phrase "the streets are cold," which captures how brutal and unpredictable dating can be, Laurinda flipped the script on her own experience: "My streets before the experiment were warm."

Why Laurinda Mabunda joined Married at First Sight

One of the more revealing parts of the conversation was Laurinda explaining her motivation for signing up. She made it clear she was not coming in wounded from past heartbreak.

"Coming into the experiment, I didn't have any fault; I did not have any trauma that was built up from my dating history. I can't fault any relationship I've been in prior to the experiment that would make me want to go on the experiment and through the vetting process."

She also clarified what she communicated to the show's experts and producers before filming began.

"I told the experts and production that I'm not here because I've been struggling in my previous relationships; I'm here because I want growth, I want momentum, I want impact in my relationships, and that's what was lacking."

What Obren Motswane said on their wedding night

Laurinda also revisited a moment from their wedding night that many viewers found telling. After she told Obren what she does for a living, his response caught her completely off guard.

"The first thing he said to me after I told him what I do for a living was, 'I'd be happy to be friends with you if this doesn't work out,'" she recalled.

Obren and Laurinda's time on the show was marked by recurring communication breakdowns, personality clashes, and a string of public and private confrontations.

Motswane eventually left the experiment before the season concluded, citing the need to prioritise his mental well-being and personal healing.
