Travis Head has taken a playful swipe at Temba Bavuma after Australia ended the South African captain's unbeaten Test record with a 214-run victory at Kingsmead on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. Head shared an AI-generated video on his Instagram Story showing Bavuma reacting in shock as he watched Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood dancing at the centre of a group of people.
The video turns Australia's on-field triumph into a social media joke at Bavuma's expense. Its timing is significant because the defeat marked the end of the Proteas skipper's remarkable start as Test captain. Before the Durban match, Bavuma had won 11 of his first 12 Tests in charge, with the other ending in a draw.

How Australia ended Bavuma’s unbeaten record
Australia's victory came from a remarkable recovery with the bat. After slipping to 124/6, the visitors reached 390 in their first innings, with Matt Renshaw scoring 190. He added 82 in the second innings as Australia declared at 314/6, setting the hosts a target of 421.
South Africa were eventually bowled out for 206. Aiden Markram top-scored with 75, while Josh Hazlewood finished the job with career-best figures of 6/49. Renshaw was named Player of the Match for his batting contributions and two second-innings wickets.
Bavuma acknowledged Australia's superiority after the match. He said that South Africa had “a lot of questions and conversations” to address, while recognising Australia's performance with both bat and ball.
Proteas face pressure before Gqeberha Test
The second Test begins at St George's Park in Gqeberha on 18 October. Bavuma's team will need a stronger batting display to level the three-match series, while Australia will aim to maintain their momentum.
