Ten years after a teenage Nasty C made one of the boldest moves in South African hip-hop, the Durban-born rapper is marking the milestone with a long-awaited gift to his fans: the official release of a shelved collaboration with the late Riky Rick.
On 23 September 2026, Nasty C dropped A Star Is Born on Audiomack, featuring the iconic musician who died by suicide in 2022, alongside American poet Omari Hardwick. The track was originally intended to appear on the commercially released version of Bad Hair but was pulled because the required samples had not been cleared in time. It has now been released to honour both the album's legacy and the memory of Riky Rick.
The night ‘Bad Hair’ changed everything
The story of Bad Hair is one of calculated risk. As a teenager, Nasty C strategically leaked his debut album on Audiomack on 23 September 2016, a move that paid off in spectacular fashion. The project shot to number one on the South African iTunes chart and became the most-streamed South African album on Audiomack within its first 24 hours of availability.

That single decision launched a career defined by international recognition, global award nominations, and collaborations with artists well beyond South African borders.
Six albums and still going
The decade since Bad Hair has been anything but quiet. Nasty C has released five additional studio albums, steadily building on the foundation his debut laid. Strings and Bling arrived in 2018, followed by Zulu Man with Some Power in 2020 and I Love It Here in 2023. Free dropped in 2025, and his latest project, Ts and Cs Apply, came out in September 2026, making the anniversary month particularly significant.
To bring the celebration closer to home, the Juice Back hitmaker also announced that he would spend the anniversary at the Bad Hair Salon pop-up at Legends Barbershop in Newtown Junction, Johannesburg, on 23 September 2026, giving fans a chance to mark the occasion with him in person.
Nasty C blasted the SA government over GBVF crisis
Nasty C posted a passionate message on Instagram on Friday, 18 September 2026, addressing the ongoing GBVF crisis gripping South Africa.
The rapper pointed fingers at decision-makers in government, saying real change will only come from those in power.
