Lionel Richie is back in hospital for the third time this year, and fans are worried. The 76-year-old music legend is currently receiving treatment for atrial fibrillation, commonly known as AFib, an irregular heartbeat condition that has once again sidelined him mid-tour.
According to TMZ, doctors are treating Richie with an AFib ablation, a relatively routine cardiac procedure. While the treatment is not considered major, the frequency of his health setbacks in 2026 has unsettled both his fanbase and the broader music world.
As a direct result of the hospitalisation, three upcoming dates on the Sing a Song All Night Long tour, which Richie is co-headlining with Earth, Wind & Fire, have been cancelled. The affected concerts were set for 26 September in San Francisco, 30 September in Chicago, and 2 October in Columbus, Ohio.

A difficult year for the music icon
This is not the first time Richie has been rushed to hospital in 2026. As Briefly News previously reported, he checked himself into a St. Louis hospital following an August concert and spent several days in the ICU before being discharged. Before that, in June, he was taken away by ambulance mid-performance after feeling dizzy during a show, forcing an abrupt end to the concert.
The latest episode arrives during a period of deep grief across the music industry. On 25 August, the world lost country music legend Dolly Parton, who passed away after a brief hospitalisation. That loss has cast a longer shadow over Richie's current condition, with many fans drawing parallels and urging him to prioritise his health over his touring schedule.
While supporters have expressed relief that Richie appears to be responding to treatment, many have called on the Hello singer to step back from the demanding pace of live performance and allow his body proper time to recover.
