Lionel Richie is heading back to Los Angeles after being discharged from a St. Louis hospital on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, following a three-day stay that sent shockwaves through the entertainment world.
TMZ reported that the legendary singer was cleared to leave on Wednesday afternoon and is now making his way home to recover. The Hello hitmaker had voluntarily checked himself in on 29 August, with one source citing possible dehydration and others pointing to heart-related concerns as the reason behind the admission.
What made the situation especially alarming was that Richie had been performing on stage just hours before he sought medical attention. Footage taken from the show showed him appearing visibly drained during the performance, at one point needing to sit down.
This latest episode is not an isolated incident. Back in June, the Dancing on the Ceiling singer had to cut a show short in Minnesota after being struck by sudden dizziness mid-performance. The back-to-back health scares have reignited concerns among fans about whether the gruelling demands of live touring are taking too heavy a toll on ageing music legends, particularly as the industry mourned a string of celebrity deaths in August.

Sources close to Richie say he is stable, in good spirits, and recovering well. Despite the reassurance, questions linger over the future of his Sing a Song All Night Long tour, which he has been co-headlining with Earth, Wind & Fire. For now, his team has him resting at home, with a performance in San Francisco later this month still on the schedule.
