A South African woman could not believe her eyes when a municipal street-sweeper truck appeared in her residential street just weeks before elections.
@newsnexussa posted the outdoor selfie-style video on 3 November 2026, filming the truck as it moved through her neighbourhood. Her reaction said it all. Speaking directly to the camera, she told viewers that this was a vehicle she had never seen in her area before, calling it an election-time miracle.
Overlaid text in the video made her point even sharper, reading:
"In this election we even have the street-cleaner which we have never seen since the dawn of democracy in South Africa."

Cleaner streets, familiar timing
The clip tapped into a frustration many South Africans carry quietly. For years, residents in townships and working-class neighbourhoods have watched essential municipal services lag behind, with clean streets, working street lights, and reliable refuse collection feeling more like promises than realities.
The appearance of a brand-new-looking street sweeper, right before voting season, struck many as more political theatre than genuine service delivery. The woman's tone was dry and satirical throughout; she laughed at the irony rather than celebrating it.
