3 Arrested After Racing Champion Robert Wolk Shot Dead in Kempton Park

Three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of South African motorsport champion Robert Wolk, who was shot dead on Wednesday 16 September in Kempton Park, Gauteng. He was 41 years old.
Wolk was on his way to the airport to catch a flight to Cape Town, where he had been scheduled to compete at Killarney International Raceway this weekend, when he was killed at the corner of Camwood Street and Portland Drive. He was declared dead at the scene, and an Audi believed to be his was recovered nearby.
What Led to the Shooting
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said Wolk had been involved in a minor collision with a Volkswagen Jetta shortly before his death. He stepped out of his vehicle to photograph the damage, after which an argument allegedly broke out with the other driver.
Social media footage, captured by nearby CCTV cameras, appears to show Wolk in conversation with the other driver before the situation escalated. The vehicle and firearm believed to have been used in the attack have since been confiscated.
One person was arrested on Thursday, 18 September. Two further arrests followed the next day. All three suspects, aged between 24 and 33, are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates' Court on Monday, 21 September, on a charge of murder.

Wolk's Three Decades of Racing Success
Wolk's career in motorsport stretched across nearly 30 years, beginning in karting in the early 1990s. He claimed the South African Junior GP Kart Championship in both 1995 and 1997, before progressing through Formula Ford and on to success in multiple disciplines.
His championship titles included the 2013 SA Formula Volkswagen Championship, the 2015 SA Formula 1600 Championship, the 2021 and 2022 SA GTC Championships, and the 2024 SA Touring Cars Championship.
He received Junior Protea Colours in 1998 and Senior Protea Colours in 2022. As recently as May 2026, he claimed his second Simola Hillclimb King of the Hill title, and won again at Aldo Scribante in June.
Killarney International Raceway confirmed his death and described him as "a gentle, humble and genuinely kind person, who brought passion, commitment and sportsmanship to his chosen sport." Motorsport South Africa called Wolk "a hugely respected figure" and said his passing had left "a profound void in South African motorsport."
