Suspected Serial Rapist Arrested in Cato Manor for Attacks on 16 Women Over 11 Years

KwaZulu-Natal — A 46-year-old man has been arrested in Cato Manor on suspicion of committing a series of sexual assaults against 16 women over more than a decade, following a joint operation by specialised police units.
The arrest on Thursday, 17 September 2026, was carried out by the Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation (SECI) unit and the Investigative Psychology Unit (IPU), both operating under the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
A decade-long crime spree across KZN
According to investigators, the alleged attacks took place between 2014 and 2025. Fourteen of the 16 victims were assaulted in Cato Manor, with one additional case each recorded in Plessislaer and Taylor's Halt.

The suspect is said to have operated primarily under cover of darkness, following women home from taverns before raping and robbing them. In other instances, he allegedly broke into the homes of women living alone and threatened them at knifepoint.
Despite the number of victims, identifying the suspect proved difficult. He concealed his face using pantyhose during each attack, leaving witnesses unable to provide a visual identification. Investigators instead built their case by establishing a consistent pattern of behaviour across the incidents, ultimately linking the suspect to all 16 cases through DNA evidence.
Durban court appearance scheduled
The suspect faces multiple charges, including rape, housebreaking, and attempted murder. He is due to appear before the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday, 21 September 2026.
