Motorsport South Africa has confirmed the death of 62-year-old supercar racer Marcel Angel following a crash at Killarney International Raceway during the National Extreme Festival on Saturday, 19 September 2026.

Angel, a resident of Llandudno, was participating in the Extreme SuperCars category when his vehicle crashed at the end of the back straight during the first supercar race of the day. Medical personnel and race officials responded immediately, but Angel succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Fatal crash at Killarney Raceway
Killarney International Raceway, issuing a statement on behalf of the Western Province Motor Club, described Angel as an experienced supercar competitor. The raceway expressed deep sorrow at his passing and directed condolences specifically to his wife Mica, as well as his broader circle of family and friends.

Extreme Festival cancelled out of respect
Following the incident, organisers took the decision to cancel all remaining events at the National Extreme Festival for the day. The Western Province Motor Club confirmed the cancellation was made as a mark of respect to the Angel family.
