A shooting scene from long-running SABC soap opera Generations has set Mzansi's social media timelines on fire, and not for the reasons the production team would have hoped.
The clip, which circulated widely on X, shows a dramatised sequence featuring two hooded, armed figures confronting each other in a dimly lit hallway near what appears to be a bar or club entrance. The scene then cuts to an emotional close-up moment with on-screen subtitles, playing out in the tense, cinematic style typical of scripted drama. Viewers, however, were not buying it.

Generations has been a staple of South African television for decades, but this particular scene has left many fans questioning how much longer the show has left in the tank.

What had Mzansi cringing
The main targets of ridicule were a waitress who drops alcohol during the chaos, a guitar that somehow made it into the scene, the shooters themselves, and perhaps most memorably, a character who simply refuses to take cover despite bullets flying for several seconds. The exchange "Silver! Silver!" heard in the clip only added to the spectacle.
The reactions came thick and fast, with many calling for the show to be axed entirely.
